Eminem was born as Marshal Bruce Mathers III and he was born on October 17, 1972. On top of these names he also occasionally goes by his alter-ego Slim Shady. Eminem was born in St. Joseph Missouri to mother Deborah Mathers-Briggs. Shortly after he was born his father abandoned the family. Because of this he and his mother moved to various Missouri cities, until they moved to Detroit.
The Detroit city they lived in was Warren, Michigan (a Detroit suburb). Eminem became interested in Hip Hop after getting a copy of the Beastie Boys (American Rap group) album Licensed to Ill. Because of this he would go on to perform amateur rap at the age of 14 under the stage name of M&M. Though he did go to high school his main focus was on rap, and he would participate freestyle rap contests at Osborn High School.
Luckily for Eminem he was talented. In 1997 he would go on to win second place in the Rap Olympics. This got him discovered by Interscope Records and led to his demo being played for Dr. Dre. This was beginning of the Grammy Award winning Slim Shady LP, which was released in 1999. Once this released his popularity grew, and it led to his friendship with Dr. Dre. This led to several collaborations between the two.
After his breakthrough album he would then go on to release The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, and Encore. All of these albums were either chart toppers are certifiable hits, and equally controversial. From 2005 to 2008 his career was on hiatus, but in 2009 he released a new album called Relapse. Eminem has worked and toured with rappers like 50 Cent, G-Unit, Dr. Dre, Lil Jon, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and others.
When Eminem isn't busy rapping he can still be found in the recording studio as a record producer, and he even has his own record label called Shady Records. If he's not behind the mic or behind the soundboard producing he will occasionally act. His most notable role is as himself in his biopic "8 Mile."see less biography
