Bollywood actress Riya Sen made her Bengali film debut with a small appearance in director Rituparno Ghosh’s film “Abohamaan”, which was screened here Sunday.
“I refused every offer I got for Bengali movies as I wanted to start my career in Bengali films with a Rituparno Ghosh film. I was waiting for the right opportunity,” said Riya.
“Abohamaan” is the story of a Bengali filmmaker who marries an actress. The actress sacrifices her career for love and marriage. Later, the director falls in love with another young actress and that leads to a scandal.
“Riya has a tiny role, yet it is significant and it is her introduction to Bengali cinema,” said Ghosh.
Dipankar Dey, Jisshu Sengupta, Mamata Shankar and Ananya Chatterjee play important roles in the film.
“Abohamaan” was screened Sunday during the 11th Mumbai Film Festival which started Oct 29 and will conclude Nov 5.
Riya’s second Bengali movie is also a Rituparno Ghosh film titled “Nouka Dubi” which is scheduled to release next year.
In “Nouka Dubi” her sister Raima Sen would be her co-star, though they will not be sharing screen space.
