omeone’s liking is someone else’s worry! The battle between IPL and the movies!
Not a battle of course…but definitely brining the ‘aam aadmi’ to a dilemma, to chose over a game of cricket or a movie at a cinema.
A possible case study: A tired executive returns home on a Friday evening and sees his favourite team playing on one hand and a new movie that has been released on that day, with a friend(whose favourite team’s not playing) who forces him to come along, on the other hand. The dilemma starts. He is baffled. LBW!
One thing that is common (there are so many) in both movies and T-20 cricket is entertainment. You have solid three hours of entertainment in both. Tension prevails (conditions apply) and excitement! And one thing that is different in both is the star cast! You have, probably, at the most 4 (including the villain) in the movies and 30 in cricket! (that includes umpires and team owners, who are again from movies!)
But efforts of movie making is quite strenuous than a 3 hour game, though cricket has its own liabilities. A movie is 3 hours long, no doubt, but the technicians; the actors and the producer work hard for at least 1 year to make that 3 hour movie. Right from designing the sets, the costumes, the song sequences, the fight scenes, it is not so easy but the actors do it so nonchalantly, we don’t realize the hard work behind.
Similarly, a cricket game is strenuous too. A 3 hour game needs a 3 hour preparation. In a week the players play two 3 hour games. Doesn’t mean they are free in between. They have practice sessions through out. Chances of injury are more. Ultimately, cricket’s got its own woes, and traveling being one of them.
Lets get back to comparison. Bollywood’s getting back to formula movies that have 5 songs, 2 fights, foreign location etc. Don’t forget, an item song! So if you’re going to the movies, you get to see a gorgeous lady dancing. Now, prepared to be puzzled! If that’s with the films, you have the choice of seeing at least 6 cheer girls (3 for either side) in cricket. And finally an argument that is as worse as ‘did the chicken come first or the egg?’- Is IPL a boon or a bane?
A boon to cricket lovers, a bane to the film makers. This is obvious! Take a turn, Hatke Soch, - A boon to movie goers, a bane to cricket lovers! Yeah, so when the IPL is on, expect a lesser crowd at your nearest cinema, watch your favourite movie and appreciate the hard work behind! For cricket lovers, watch the match, miss the movie! Miss that exciting fight scene or that hilarious comedy!
In spite of all this, you’ll still be baffled. Cricket’s cricket and a movie's a movie. Pick your choice this season! Happy Weekend!
