Priyamani on Monday inaugurated the ‘Oscars 2010’ in Chennai, a film festival which is being organised by the US Consulate General, Chennai, Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation and the Madras Film Society.
“It is a good platform to showcase the movies that were nominated for the Oscars this year,” the actress said while inaugurating the festival, where American films that were either nominated for or won the Oscars this year, will be screened.
The opening film that was screened on Monday was ‘A Serious Man,' directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen. U.S Consul-General in Chennai Andrew T Simkin said screening of films that entered the Oscars had always evoked an overwhelming response from film-lovers.
“The Consulate has been popularising the films by selecting the best movies for such festivals. A similar festival organised earlier this year got a tremendous response,” the Consul-General said, expressing happiness.
The films will be screened daily at 6.30 p.m. till April 22 at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce theatre. Entry to the screenings is free and seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
