Kollywood sings Kalaignar’s paeans

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Kalaignar Nagar on Sunday witnessed some emotional moments as many speakers hailed Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his contributions to the film industry.
Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan and Film Employees Federation of South India chief V C Guhanathan said that no one could be compared with Karunanidhi when it comes to serving the people of Tamil Nadu in all possible forms.
Guhanathan, one of the key persons behind the venture, requested the Chief Minister to stay with the film industry family at least once in a year at Kalaignar Nagar. “We will earmark a house at Kalaignar Nagar for the Chief Minister and we request him to visit it at least once in a year”, he added.
Kushboo expressed the collective feelings of the workers of the film world and went straight to the Chief Minister to pay her gratitude. Mammooty praised Karunanidhi for launching a scheme for those who landed in Chennai with dreams, but failed to realise their aspirations in the film world.
Dasari Narayana Rao described Karunanidhi’s rule as the golden period for film industry. Veteran producer A V M Saravanan said “We should be grateful to the Chief Minister, who has rendered yeoman service to the industry and rolled out many concessions.”
Sarath Kumar appealed to the Chief Minister to extend the time-frame for construction of houses from two years to five years, besides making a plea to arrange loans through banks.
Popular Bollywood actor of yesteryear Jitendra also praised Karunanidhi for rolling out various sops for the film industry. “This sun will never set,” he said, apparently referring to the DMK’s symbol, the rising sun.
