Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1959 in Mumbai, India. He act film experience in his family since his father, Surinder Khan was a film producer. Kapoor began acting in 1979 with the film “Hamare Tumhare” in a supporting role. In 1983 he received his first leading role in “Woh Saat Din.” He would win a Filmfare for best supporting actor for his role in the critically acclaimed Yash Chopra film “Mashaal” in 1984. His role in the sci-fi film “Mr. India” received much praise.
He finally won the Filmfare award for Best Actor in 1988 with the film “Tezaab” and won another four years later in the same category for his film “Beta” where he starred alongside Madhuri Dixit. He received successes with films such as “Biwi No. 1” and “Taal” among others but received a hit in 2008 with the film “Race.”
Also in 2008 he was thrust into the International spotlight with the film “Slumdog Millionaire.” Khan played the role of a game show host. His role gained him praise at the January 2009 66th Golden Globe Awards where he along with the cast won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Aside from acting Anil Kapoor also produces. In 2002 he produced his first film with the comedy “Badhaai Ho Badhaai.”He has also produced “My Wife’s Murder” and “Gandhi, My father.” The later shows the relationship between Mahatma Ghandi and his son Harilal. His latest film will be “Race 2.” A follow up to the blockbuster “Race.”
Anil Kapoor has been married since 1982 to Suita Kapoor. The two have two daughters and a son. His oldest daughter is Sonam Kapoor, an up and coming actress. see less biography
