Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9, 1985 in Mumbai, India. You probably know her father, Filmfare award winning actor Anil Kapoor. Aside from her father's acting experience, Sonam Kapoor is also the granddaughter of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor and the niece of producer Boney Kapoor.
Despite the talent that surrounded her growing up, Sonam grew up in what could be considered annormal environment. Her other siblings, Rhea, 20 and Harsh, 17 were exposed to the same amount of film as other children. That was because Sonam's mother, Sunita, wanted to be sure that her children focused on their education. For school, Sonam Kapoor went to the United World College of East Asia in the booming country of Singapore. Sonam studied Theatre Arts and Chinese History and is a trained classical Indian and Latino dancer.
After Sonam Kapoor left Singapore, she asked her father for some to get into the industry and was able to assist director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on is film "Black" which starred Amitabh Bachchan. While working with him, Bhansali suggested that Sonam Kapoor take a step into acting. She would later get a role from the Bhansali for the role of a mystery girl in the film 2007 "Saawariya" which cast her alongside Ranbir Raj. While the film was a box office failure, it gave Sonam Kapoor exposure and critics warmed to the young actress. Her last box-office venture was "Delhi-6" where she worked with Abhishek Bachchan. Like the previous film "Saawariya," "Delhi-6" was also a box office failure but Sonam Kapoor received good reviews from critics on her role. Her next project will be the comedy "Come on Pappua" where she will be paired up with Akshay Kumar.
Sonam Kapoor's down-to-earth personality has won over the masses. Aside from acting, Kapoor works towards her degree in Economics and Political Science at Bombay University.see less biography
