Call it coincidence but KURBAAN would release on exactly the same day when WAKE UP SID completes its 50 day run at the box office. This would indeed be a double whammy for Dharma Productions who are now looking at half a dozen films of theirs releasing in next 18 months.
Says Ranbir Kapoor, "What WAKE UP SID has done to me is get me respect and acceptability as an actor. People knew that I could perform while industry in general has shown its confidence in me. That's good because WAKE UP SID wasn't run of the mill cinema."
CHECK OUT: KURBAAN Movie Preview
A movie, which even producer Karan Johar would agree has turned out to be a sleeper hit; WAKE UP SID opened quite well at the box office and also stayed on quite stable in weeks to follow. Released before Diwali, the only week in which it saw a dip in collections was the one when BLUE, ALL THE BEST and MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA released. However, it saw an escalation in collections from the very next week and only gained from strength to strength.
With collections over 28 crores just from India, the film was the biggest success for Ranbir before his AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI smashed quite a few records.
Now with WAKE UP SID making way for KURBAAN, it would be interesting to see how this dramatic thriller takes forward Karan Johar's winning streak.
