Not many will be aware that LAHORE director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan's first choice for the role of the kick boxing coach, Farouque Shaikh, had almost turned down the film, due to an interesting confusion.
It took Sanjay almost nine months to get in touch with the over choosy Farooque, who in real life is a very busy man due to his social activities such as his involvement with UNO etc. Finally, when he did submit the script to the actor, who loved it but more or less turned down the role due to some confusion about which role he was being offered.
CHECK OUT: LAHORE - Movie Preview
A rather disappointed Sanjay started the shooting with another actor essaying Farouque Shaikh's role. But being a perfectionist Sanjay was not really satisfied and happy. One fine day, Sanjay had a call from Farouque and the confusion was cleared whereby Farouque was told that it was indeed the coach's role that he had to essay and not what he had previously thought. The veteran actor agreed and he became a part of LAHORE immediately.
To understand why Sanjay was so keen on Shaikh we decided to ask him and he told us, "Farouque ji has a reputation and it is due to the fact that he has never fallen prey to commercial temptations. In the last 14-15 years, he has said yes to just 2-3 films and you will be surprised to know that ours was the first. He has a certain reputation, integrity and is sincere to his work. In fact it is his credibility that he has brought into LAHORE, our sincere and passionate labour of love. And once you see the film on screen you will understand what I am saying. That is why I just could not think of any other name, how ever big or small (commercially) in that role."
Excellently put, Sanjay! We are convinced and are sure that the audience too will feel the same when they see LAHORE which hits the screens globally on 19th March.
