In February this year at a memorial meeting for the writer Sujatha, Manushyaputhiran of Uyirmai Publications said that his publishing house would institute an award for young writers in Sujatha’s name.
Uyirmai publishing house and Sujatha trust have now announced the winners of the annual Sujatha awards. The awardees for 2010 under six categories are Kalapriya (Prose), Jayandan (short story), Ramesh Prethan (Poetry), M.Kamuthirai (NNovel), Dr. G.Sivaraman (Little Magazine), Leka (Internet). Writers Prapanjan, Indira Parthasarathy, Gnanakoothan, Vaasanthi, Dilipkumar, S.Ramakrishnan were the members of the panel which selected the awardees. The award comes with a cash award of Rs 10,000 cash and a citation.
The award is will be presented at Devaneya Pavanar Arangam in Chennai on May 3rd, which is the birth anniversary of writer Sujatha.
Actor R.Parthiban, Director Balu Mahendra, Prof. K. Gnanasambandan, Writers Charu Niveditha, Tamilachi Thangapandian, Vaasanthi, Manushyaputhiran and others will grace the function.
Writer Sujatha not only shaped contemporary Tamil through his writing in diverse media but also scripting for Tamil cinema by associating with trend setters like Mani Ratnam and Shankar.
