"Aamir Is God" - Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor has a lot to celebrate. Her film 3 Idiots is a runaway hit. And Kareena decided to run away to Delhi to be with her sister Karisma for New Years.Sounding more relaxed than she did recently, Kareena took time off from the very special family gathering to speak. "I've been running around frantically promoting my film. And then I was ailing for a week. I decided I had to be well for the festive season. Christmas was a very very special occasion for my mom and sister. But we never get to be together for the occasion. This time I was adamant. I made sure I took time off from work so all us girls could spend time together. My mom and I were here in Delhi to spend time with my sister and niece." Laughs Kareena, "Karisma and I don't get to spend that much time together. She has her home and husband in Delhi. My career takes me all over the place. Mom cribs we're never together. This year-end reunion was something we had promised ourselves from long before." In Delhi, Kareena is over-whelmed by the response to her new film. "Everywhere I go I am swamped by compliments for the role. The length of the role didn't matter. I'm just glad to be part of a historic happening. When Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir asked me to be part of their film I jumped at it. I knew the film would be special because of Raju and Aamir, and I was right. As far as our cinema is concerned, Aamir is God." Reacting to the opinion that Kareena hardly has anything to do in her new film Kareena says, "Who says I've nothing to do? I'm very part of the main drama .Would the story forward if you remove my character? " Kareena is specially pleased by the compliments she has received for her pairing with Aamir. "Everyone thinks we look good together. I think Aamir and I make a fantastic pair. I'd love to do another film with him immediately, this time I don't want share him with other pivotal characters." In fact talks are on with two leading filmmakers including Mani Ratnam who is apparently all set to revive his Aamir-Kareena project Lajjo. A R Rahman and Gulzar have even recorded the songs. Looking back on the year Kareena feels happy about the response to her performances in Kurbaan and 3 Idiots. "Both films are very precious to me. Kurbaan was intense, 3 Idiots was more fun. In 2010 I did films with all the Khans.... Salman, Aamir, Shah Rukh (I had a song with him in Billu) and of course Saif."

Bollywood folks pick the worst film of 2009

we went across the B-town and found that 3 Idiots was the unanimous choice when it came to the best that 2009 had to offer. The closest contender was Paawhile Avatar led from the front when it came to Hollywood flicks. However, it was quite a divided opinion when it came to the worst of 2009. Quite a few names popped up, some big (Delhi 6, Chandni Chowk To China), some small (Dil Bole Hadippa), some relatively unknown (Videsh - Heaven on Earth, Victory) and a few completely irrelevant (Deshdrohi). There was also an emotional angle involved with a filmmaker or two criticizing their own effort (Sikandar). Shirish Kunder - (Smiles) Yes, there is one movie which is really the worst for me. Still, I can't name it since it's been made by people known to me! Kalki - Worst of the year was Billu (Barber) because it was just a series of music videos and nothing else. Sajid Khan - Worst movie of the year was Delhi 6. Really, I had a lot of expectations from the film but it turned out to be such a disappointing fare. Hasnain Hyderabadwaala - The worst film of 2009 is Dil Bole Hadippa. Really, what were the makers thinking? Audiences were taken for granted that the protagonist out there won't be able to differentiate between a girl and a boy despite a different physicality and voice. Jagmohan Mundhra - I have to pick two films here - Chandni Chowk To China and Kambakkht Ishq. Rituparna Sengupta - There is nothing really which is worst for me because every movie has some effort going in there. Ruslaan Mumtaz - Blue is the worst movie of the year Piyush Jha - Even though I directed it, I believe worst film of the year was Sikandar. That's because no one saw it and the media totally ignored its significance. Perhaps that happened because Sikandar didn't have stars/big backers/comic entertainment. Whatever is the reason, the fact is Sikandar was ignored, and that is the real truth. Sonu Sood - (Smiles) Even as the entire year is through, I still can't decide on one worst movie. Maybe I have missed it. Suneel Darshan - 2009 started with its worst film Chandni Chowk to China It was a 'directionless' disaster that disrespected the viewer's sensibility. Sadaa - You are asking me about the worst film of the year? You know what; there have been so many that I don't even care to remember. Boney Kapoor - Preity Zinta's Videsh - Heaven on Earth was the worst that 2009 had to offer. Robby Grewal - Worst of the lot would be Deshdrohi (the film had a staggered release across 2008 and 2009) Ananth Mahadevan - If I pick one WORST FILM of the year, I might just stir up a hornet's nest. For, another one might cry out that it was more deserving. So let sleeping dogs lie! Aanand L Rai - For me, the worst movie in 2009 was Delhi 6. It was a very fine concept and from a rock solid director. Still, it failed. Hansika Motwani - I don't really wish to pick and choose the worst film of the year because for me every movie is good. I know what are the kind of difficulties that we actors go through so it would be wrong on my part to say that this or that movie was bad! Tusshar Kapoor - Worst of 2009 would be all those films that were released during the strike. Ha ha ha! Kunal Deshmukh - Chandni Chowk To China was the worst film of the year. What a waste of effort. They could have done so much with the film but that was not the case to be. Raksha Mistry - Isn't it ironical that the first film which I saw in 2009 stays on to be worst for me? I am talking about Chandni Chowk To China. Maybe I was expecting a lot from the film's association with Warner Bros. But then it neither had any locations of China nor Chandni Chowk. Worse, it had no story!

Faces 2009 - A look at B-towners who rocked this year

It was a relatively quiet year for some of the icons of showbiz. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek spent the year shooting Mani Ratnam's Raavan in the wilderness. John, Bipasha, Preity and Shah Rukh also had a quiet year. Saif Ali Khan made waves withLove Aaj Kal and then vanished during the second part of year. So who were the most visible faces of the year?
Big B: He took a large chunk of the year off to be with his friend Amar Singh, faced a thundering failure in Aladin. In the meanwhile, Paa director Balki took off for the mountains for a 10-day retreat to write yet another startling role for Mr B. After courting Tabu and Progeria in Cheeni Kum and Paa respectively, what next? Balki knows best.
Ranbir Kapoor: So okay at year-end Ranbir's most precious film and the performance he was proudest of in Rocket Singh- Salesman Of The Year failed to take off. Rocket aborted but the guy proved unstoppable with two back-to-back hits, both with weird kinky titles - Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, both featuring Ranbir in author-backed roles. The quota of conviction and credibility combined with a star presence that we thought went out of vogue with Rishi Kapoor, makes Ranbir the most dependable star-actor of our times. He won't bend to break the rules. He will just do what he wants, regardless of repercussions. All through the year he remained in the news for his breakups, linkups, and what-not though he swears he has no interest in being newsworthy. Neither did Tiger Woods.
Katrina Kaif: Ek Katrina thi, lakhon deewane the...could be the song this wholesome lissome winsome win-all lass could sing to her grandchildren. With 3 blockbusters New York, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaniand De Dana Dan to her credit Katrina left the female competitors far behind. At year-end she suffered a bout of ill health but was on her feet soon enough. You can't keep a lucky-charm down.
Pritam Chakraborty: Every year it's the same story. The hot-hit machine. Practically every chartbuster of 2009 was Pritam's. No wonder he can't stop grinning from year to year. Pritam scored bull's eye with songs in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Tum Mile, De Dana Dan , New York. The birth of a baby girl ensured that the goofy smile never left Pritam's face.
Akshay Kumar: He ran into some choppy weather during the earlier part of 2009 when three of his purported blockbusters Chandni Chowk To China, Tasveer 8 X 10 and Kambakkht Ishq under-performed. But the second-half of the year with De Dana Dan and the singular honour of carrying the Olympian torch proved to be the high points of Akshay's year. He's all set for a year of big events ahead.
AR Rahman: He went off to get the Oscar for us. Came back to a cluster of pending assignments and then is now off to get the Grammy for his Slumdog Millionaire. Not since Pandit Ravi Shankar has an Indian musician made such a grand impact globally. It would be no exaggeration to say that when it comes to our music, Rahman is the global 'band' ambassador.
Salman Khan: With Wanted, Salman proved that the old-fashioned larger-than-life hero still ruled the roost. Salman's spate of non-starters at the boxoffice were quickly forgotten as he single-handedly revived the sagging fortunes of Boney Kapoor's production house. The film had no star value except Salman. As though to prove he sells solo, Salman's home production Main Aur Mrs Khanna with the hot-and-happening Kareena Kapoor tanked during Diwali.
Vishal Bhardwaj: While he lit up the pubs with Dhan Te Nan, his latest stab at direction Kaminey got the nation's critics swooning in ecstasy. Yup, Vishal Bhardwaj clicked in both capacities as a music composer and a filmmaker. On the home front, Vishal's wife Rekha made headway as a playback singer of substance. This Bhardwaj sure has come a long way.

Wishing Vidya Balan a very happy Birthday

She is the epitome of 'V'ulnerability, 'I'ndian-ness, 'D'earness, 'Y'outh, and 'A'ttitude. For those in the know, will surely know whom we are referring to. But for the uninitiated, she is the one and only Vidya Balan, who celebrates her birthday today. Not many know that this Gen-Next's Dream Girl started her affair with the camera with the Malyalam movie 'Chakram', a film in which she was paired opposite the southern superstar Mohanlal. And as far as the ad world is concerned, it was the Surf Excel commercial that paved the way for the 'Excel-lent' actress into the silver screen. And the resultant of this was the Pradeep Sarkar directed Parineeta, a film that gave Bollywood its very own Superstar in Vidya Balan.
Vidya repeated the success of Parineeta with films like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Guru, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Heyy Babyy and the more recent smash hit Paa. It’s tough to play a simple, beautiful girl – Priyanka Chopra

She is smart, glamorous and one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood, but Priyanka Chopra says it was difficult for her to portray a simple, beautiful girl in forthcoming film “Pyaar Impossible” and still try to hold the interest of audiences.“When you do characters like one in ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Fashion’ or ‘Kaminey’, there are certain peripheries. For example, Sweety in ‘Kaminey’ won’t be able to speak English or she won’t wear jeans and top. They are also difficult, but the boundaries help. When I am playing a simple beautiful looking girl, how do I get your interest?” Priyanka said.“Heroines ought to look beautiful, it’s their work. We look pretty, we wear great clothes but that’s our job. But how do I make you feel for her? That’s why these films are more difficult,” Priyanka, who has teamed up with Uday Chopra in the film, told IANS.Written and produced by Uday, “Pyaar Impossible” is a romantic tale about a beauty and a geek. Directed by Jugal Hansraj, it shows how fate brings Uday and Priyanka come together and love blooms amidst all odds.Talking about her character in “Pyaar Impossible”, Priyanka said: “I play Alisha who works in a software company. She has always been a popular girl, fun loving and one who loves life. The actress took three months before giving her final consent for the film.“When I was offered the film, I was shooting for ‘Kaminey’. So I told them I will take some time to decide. It took me around three months to read the script, but when I read it, I felt I was reading a romantic book or a breezy novel and I immediately called Uday and gave my consent,” she added.Priyanka was all praise for Uday and the way he has sketched the characters.“Uday is a great human being and a very talented guy. The way he had written the story and sketched my character, they are very close to reality,” Priyanka said before leaving for New York.She will stay there for two and a half months to complete Siddharth Anand’s “Anjana Anjani”, which also features Ranbir Kapoor.“I am planning to enjoy the New Year’s eve in Times Square, but it’s so cold and there has been a blizzard too so I’m not sure whether I would be able to go out of my hotel or not,” said Priyanka.Asked about her role in Farhan Akhtar’s “Don 2″, she said: “It’s coming by the end of next year. Deepika Padukone: I was excited and nervous

A-list Bollywood talent, Deepika Padukone, was invited by Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to attend a private dinner at his official residence on 28th December 2009, held in honour of the Prime Minister of Japan, Yukio Hatoyama, and his wife Miyuki Hatoyama's visit to India. Deepika was personally invited by the Indian Prime Minister and was the only guest to be invited from the entire Bollywood fraternity at the elite 20-people sit down dinner.

Deepika, who was shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's KHELENGE HUM JEE JAAN SE in Goa, readily agreed and took a day off from shooting to attend. The A-list actress wore a stunning Manish Malhotra saree to the event.
In commenting about the evening Deepika says, 'It was a privilege and honour for me to be invited to this dinner. I was excited and nervous at the same time. It was a very special evening for me.'

Akshay, Twinkle cancel their New Year Party

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna had to cut short their New Year celebration plan after Twinkle's maternal uncle met with an accident recently. The news of the accident has caused great pain to Dimple Kapadia and her family, because it has only been a few weeks that Dimple lost her sister Simple Kapadia to cancer.
It's reported that Dimple's younger brother Suhail Kapadia met with a car accident and is now in a state of coma. The car which Suhail was driving rammed into a tree and Suhail along with one of his friends who was also traveling with him are in serious condition in a city hospital.
Akshay Kumar, Dimple Kapadia and Twinkle Khanna were planning to celebrate the New Year's in Goa. But, after this tragic incident the party has been cancelled.

SRK's Ra-1 in Miami from March 2010!

The shooting of Shah Rukh Khan's next, the SFX extravaganza, Ra-1, is all set to commence from March 2010. The superhero project is to go on the floors in early March and the first phase of shooting will last for about a month. The location chosen is the sun and sand of Miami.

As per executive producer, Prashant Shah, founder, president and CEO of New Jersey based Bollywood Hollywood Productions, though it is a superhero film like SPIDERMAN and SUPERMAN but instead of the darker and grittier city like Gotham City, the location chosen is the sun and sand of Miami. Apart from the exotic location what drew Shah to Miami was the wonderful experience that he had in 2008, during the shooting of Tarun Mansukhani's DOSTANA.
As per Shah, while the shooting will be on locations in and around the city, the cast and crew will be based at the Doubletree Grand in Coconut Grove.

Celina: ACCIDENT will help me gain recognition as an actress

On the eve of release of ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD, Celina is quite positive about the prospects of the film and believes that despite minimal promotion, it would manage to find audiences amongst those who like quality cinema.
"May be the promotion is not very good, but then it is alright", says Celina, "The kind of film that 'Accident...' is and the kind of audience that it is targeting, I have no regrets. See, an actor's work finishes after dubbing and when it comes to publicity; you can only make yourself available when asked for and rest is all on makers. So the question around promotion is best directed at them. However, rest assured the film will definitely make money because it has been made on a controlled budget. Everyone associated with the film is feeling very safe about it."CHECK OUT: ACCIDENT...is grey, not darkNotwithstanding the fact that the film is also competing with RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYIand BOLO RAAM (with 3 IDIOTS continuing to ignite heat at the box office), she sounds quite positive. Rajat Kapoor: Filmmaking scenario has improved 100 times

RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI, a co-production between Rajat Kapoor and PNC, is finally ready for release. For a man who has brought a different dimension to new age cinema with films like BHEJA FRY, MITHYA and MIXED DOUBLES, one wonders if film makers like him are still required to go the whole hog to find buyers? Is the struggle still on?
'Well, I would say that it is not that simple to get your film up there on screen', admits Rajat, 'There is still a lot of heartburn and heartbreak. Still, let's look at the positive side of things. It's a fact that overall the scenario has improved 100 times in last 10 years. Today in India, there are a lot more opportunities than there were ever before.'

For someone who started on a humble note with a small time film PRIVATE DETECTIVE, Rajat has indeed come a long way.
Remembers Rajat, 'I made PRIVATE DETECTIVE but it was never released. Today, there is guarantee that at least your film will see the light of the day. Earlier agar aap mar-mar kar film bana bhi lete they toh bhi yeh nahi maloom tha ki release hogi ya nahi. Aaj, ek glimmer of hope toh hai ki shaayad aapki film dekhne log aa jaaye. (Earlier, even if you somehow make a film, it was not sure if it would release at all. Today, there's a glimmer of hope that there would be someone to watch your film) It may see one show at 11'o clock in the morning but the brighter aspect of the affairs is that there is at least a foot in the door.'

Rajkumar Hirani: I may do a fantasy or an animation film

After making three back-to-back feel good heart warming films with a message - MUNNABHAI MBBS, LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI and now 3 IDIOTS, there is a world of opportunity out there for writer-director Rajkumar Hirani. With limitless options of picking and choosing a subject belonging to any genre that he may wish to explore, Hirani is now expressing his desire to dabble into the world of fantasy or animation.
"I want to do what I enjoy doing most", says Hirani whose 3 IDIOTS is now en route to being the biggest money spinner of the year 2009, "This is the basic principle that I have followed right through my film making career so far. Films like 3 IDIOTS and 'Munnabhai' series are a lot of fun for me. They belong to feel good genre where you laugh and cry when you step out of the auditorium after watching them."

This pretty much seems to be following the basic message that he has tried to spread though his Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi starrer as well. He has stated through his characters in the film that one must do what he/she enjoys doing most rather than following something just because the rest of the world is doing it and perhaps getting better success.
"I am not here to prove a point to anyone", says Hirani, "Due to this very reason I can afford to do what I wish to do. Currently I am plain and simple enjoying what I am doing and this is how I want things to be for my subsequent films as well. Really, I am in no hurry to make movies."
"I like films belonging to fantasy and animation genre. In fact I may end up making one myself. In fact biographies interest me a lot as well so I could even pick up one such subject as well", he adds as an after thought.

Salman and Akshay are Farah Khan's new friends!

Shahrukh and Salman are not good friends, the exact opposite of Shahrukh and Farah- no secrets there.
With Farah's new directorial venture, TEES MAAR KHAN, Shahrukh has been sidestepped by Farah for Akshay. At the same time, hubby, Shirish Kunder has signed Salman for this next movie planned to start after ALIEN SAHIB starring John Abraham.
The casting with Salman is certain as confirmed by both Farah and Shirish. At Salman's birthday party in Panvel on December 24 Farah and her husband sealed this deal.
Speculation on where this casting call will leave Farah in her perpetual alliance with her mentor Shahrukh Khan remains to be seen in the coming months.

Shahid Kapoor donates stuff from PAATHSHALA

With choreographer-turned-producer Ahmed Khan's PAATHSHALA's shooting complete, the props used for the film's shooting are still in use. The props, used in PAATHSHALA - notebooks, benches, school bags, and stationery - have been donated to three disadvantaged schools teaching underprivileged children. The film is directed by Milind Ukey, film stars Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Nana Patekar. The story deals with current and socially significant issues regarding children's education. Ahmed Khan had erected a massive set at Film City. There was a school with classrooms, staff rooms, huge corridors, dormitories, the principal's cabin, assembly hall, music room, a basket ball court, garden, etc.
Several of the wooden benches, uniforms, duffel bags, stationery and books used for the film were donated as they were among basics required by school students with the thought that underprivileged kids could really use these items. After the shooting, Shahid and Ahmed decided to donate all these basic school utility items to the underprivileged kids studying in schools.

No partying for Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar

Along with being good friends and doing a lot of things together, it seems that Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar are in sync with their new year's celebrations as well. Mannat, SRK's Bandra residence seems to be the place to be for SRK in keeping with plans for a quiet family time. While Karan continues to move ahead with the editing and soundwork of MY NAME IS KHAN in Mumbai, which compels him to abandon celebration.
Sources reveal that Karan's initial plans were to ring in the New Year abroad with Dubai villa as the pit-stop for SRK over the holidays. Now it seems that SRK will return from Dubai to spend a quiet new year at his home with Karan canceling his overseas plans as he did last year due to the November terror attacks in Mumbai.

Vikram and Himesh Reshammiya together

Himesh Reshammiya made his debut in Kollywood with the musical score for grand ‘Dasavatharam’. The film’s musical score made a great business across the globalmarket and he had then tuned melodies for Bharathiraja’s ‘Bommalaattam’.
Now, it’s his turn to make his comeback in Tamil film industry with Vikram’s next magnum opus with director Selvaraghavan. According to the buzzes heard on air, Selvaraghavan wants to experiment differently this time with his untitled film.

Salman to play double role in Boney Kapoor’s next

Basking in joy with the success of ‘Wanted’, Boney Kapoor and Salman Khan is desired to continue the hit run and so Boney has decided to rope in Salman again for the ‘No Entry’ sequel. The box office record of ‘No Entry’ was not so promising but even the filmmakers have decided to go for the sequel considering Salman’s popularity.

Confirming the news, Boney said, “It will be called ‘Be Positive - No Entry Part 2’. If you remember, Anil Kapoor kept saying Be positive’ throughout No Entry".

The sequel will be directed by Anees Bazmee and will have double role of three heroes Salman, Anil and Fardeen. The film will have the same three girls, Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley and Esha Deol and three new heroines will be finalized for the double roles.

The film will go on floor by next year.

Kareena goes topless while Saif is bleeding

The poster of Rensil D’Silva’s ‘Kurbaan’ is creating much hullabaloo as Kareena Kapoor is shown in topless posture and Saif Ali Khan bleeding profusely from heart. The film has been much talked about for Saif and Kareena’s steamy scene and the first look has been a proof of this. The poster looks very bold.

The film is set against the backdrop of terrorism starring Om Puri, Vivek Oberoi along with Saif and Kareena. The film has been directed by debutante director Rensil D’Silva who co-wrote Rang De Basanti.

Shot in Philadelphia, Delhi and Mumbai, ‘Kurbaan’ is all set to release on November 27.

Asin to visit Chennai for FEFSI meet

Since the day she entered Bollywood through Hindi ‘Ghajini’ with Aamir Khan, Asin seldom comes down to Chennai. She is now established in Bollywood as Mumbai’s sensation and has recently signed-up a project with Jr. Bachchan.
Asin, who has settled in her apartment in Mumbai comfortably, will be coming to Chennai soon! Hang on! It’s not for any new Tamil project but for the All India FEFSI Conference.
